About us

Based in America's finest city - San Diego-  we trace our heritage to God's own country - Kerala - in South India. Starting in the late 90s, the Malayalees in San Diego had been celebrating the harvest festival of Onam at the Poway Auditorium during September and the Annual Malayalees Picnic at Lake Poway in October. The celebrations started with the few Keralite families in San Diego but by the 2000s had grown exponentially. For over 17 years, the events were coordinated by selfless volunteers with pot-luck food and variety entertainments. To accommodate the burgeoning population, the volunteers decided to charter an organization culminating in the formation of San Diego Malayalees in 2016. 

With profound gratitude, we offer our special thanks to all of the volunteer coordinators who helped organize the Onam, Picnic and Christmas celebrations from 1998 through 2015. We especially remember those who are no longer with us today .
